LARGE parts of southern Spain have been placed on yellow alert from Wednesday onwards as an Atlantic storm is set to arrive.

Dubbed Storm Cecilia, the storm is forecast to bring strong winds to the Costa del Sol, Murcia and Costa Blanca this week.

On Wednesday, weather agency AEMET has placed Murcia, Alicante, Almeria and Granada on yellow alert for strong winds and rough coastal conditions.

On Thursday the conditions will continue with yellow warnings being added to Malaga and the Costa del Sol, Mallorca and Ibiza.

There will be a noticeable drop in temperature from Thursday onwards with the Costa del Sol predicted to have lows of 7C on Friday and Saturday.

According to Accuweather, southern Spain is set for at least five straight days of rain starting on Sunday.

From Sevilla to Cordoba and along the Costa del Sol, there will be rainfall everyday between Sunday and Thursday.

Details on the intensity of the rainfall are not yet available.
